A few weeks ago I was invited to be a part of the Launch Team for Dr. Taylor Marshalls new book Infiltration. I’m not ignorant of Taylor Marshall or his other writings. Taylor Marshalls apologetic books The Crucified Rabbi, Catholic Perspective of St. Paul, and The Eternal City, along with Scott Hahn and Michael Voris who were all were paramount to my reversion back to the Catholic Faith. I’m the type where I need blunt truths, I don’t do well with sugar coating. Blame it on the Marine in me. Some people may say this isn’t “Pastoral”, but thats what I needed. If you were going to try and pander to me and patronize me, I would have immediately discarded whatever you had to say. I understand some people do need hard to swallow information fed to them in bits of bite sized morsels coated with two spoons of sugar and gently ease them into it. Thats all well and good, but that style didn’t resonate with my logical dictated mind.
In the midst of my reversion, last summer when the McCarrick news broke and then the PA Grand Jury Report, then Vigano, things seemed to be snowballing. I didn’t know how to wrap my head around it since I was only back in the Church for less than a year. How was I supposed to understand everything I’ve learned about the Church over the last year to eighteen months and how was that going to shake out with all these “revelations” coming out? Taylor Marshalls podcast with Tim Gordon was crucial to my understanding these topics. It led me to research things I didn’t even know about, like how the original Schema for Vatican 2 were overruled by some Council “Fathers” through some dubious and adhoc rules and then replaced with what we have now. How everything I knew about the SSPX was based on information from biased sources that had an axe to grind with the SSPX, and their situation was much more tenable and irregular than schismatic.
Although Dr. Marshalls podcast mostly helped me put things into perspective and flesh out how we got where we are, there were some parts of his podcast that were hard to believe and really lacked any type of reliable sourcing. You see, my job or my specialty in the Marine Corps was in the Intelligence field. I was extensively trained in being able to remove bias from information and determine its veracity based on likelihood and sourcing. Many times in Marshalls podcast, he would rightfully state when he wasn’t sure of the source and could not lend much credence to the information.

After a few months of listening to Dr. Marshall, I needed to find more about Dr. Marshall and his background. I won’t go into his conversion here, my interest was more in what he did after his conversion. In some RadTrad corners of the internet I learned about a story going around about Dr. Marshall while he was on the board of a University. What I could read and find, although some of it may have some truth to it, I couldn’t lend any credence to it because it single source reporting putting this information out, and it was mostly ad hominem without any accredited documentation to back it up. If it is true, its sad. But as we know through Sacred Scripture, you will know them by their fruits. I have never witnessed any vitriol from Dr. Marshall unless its toward irreverence or insult to Our Lord. I have never witnessed him speak ill of someone unless there was documentation detailing the need to reproach someone, ie, Donald Wuerl and his activity in Pennsylvania as a Bishop or as Cardinal in Washington D.C. These instances were entirely warranted.
There are multiple instances where I don’t agree with Dr. Marshall and Tim Gordon. Their podcast against Distributism was more of two bullies attacking a straw man about distributism than really arguing against the merits or flaws of distributism. I was excited when I saw them having Charles Coulombe and I hoped they would get a contrarian view to their previous podcast. This subject hardly even came up. I’m not one for distributism, but I can identify unintelligent and biased argument when I see it.
Months later after I first started listening to him, when through his Podcast I learned he was putting out a book about the controversy and issues in the Church. He was attempting to link the issues back long before Vatican 2, and I wanted to see how and what he had to say. I’ve read quite a bit on the topic already, trying to make sense of Christs Church and how things could get to where they are now. I’ve read so many prophecies, manuscripts, rumors and rumors of rumors, that my head is swimming with facts and dates and names that really make no sense. I never had the time to sit down and make a link analysis of all of these individuals, events, etc that I was so used to doing in my time in the Marines.

This is where Dr. Marshalls genius shines in his new book Infiltration: The Plot to Destroy the Church from Within. This book is not an exhaustive study of all the issues in the Church. Each chapter is a cited and documented wave top of the topic that each chapter is titled with. Chapters go from such topics as the Alta Vendita, Pope Leo XIII and the St. Michael Prayer, up to the Sankt Gallen Mafia which was confirmed by Cdl. Daneels in his biography. Dr. Marshall does not put in any information that he cannot corroborate. He even leaves out plenty of “well known” information that has been circulated through out the Traditional Catholic internet because it lacks any verifiable or quantifiable citations to justify putting it into this book.
The citations and research done in this book is what more or less I enjoyed about this book, rather than the information that is in it. Nothing is going to be new here for anyone who has been keeping up or researching these topics themselves. This book just puts them into a easily Birds Eye View of all the events and looking at the Macro view to see how it all has tied into together and how one event has led to another.
I highly recommend this book to be added to the bookshelves to help people understand where we are in our times. The final chapter in his book is his solution to what we as Catholics can do now. It always leads to prayer, Our Lord, and our Mother. Say the Rosary, love your family, and offer penance. We have to recognize our enemy isn’t other people, degenerate Clergy, or the Pope. Our enemy is none other than The Enemy and his demons.
